Lorax

I'm super excited for this movie coming out.  Illumination Entertainment has become one of my favorite studios.

And because we can't forget the original 1972 Lorax movie!  Gotta love it!

Rendered Frame

Just one rendered frame of my dragon shot.  Its not done yet or ready to be rendered, but I thought it was fun.  I had to check some spots to check intersections and stuff.

Dragon Update

This is where my dragon has ended up for now.  It still has work that needs to be done to it, but my reel was due at midnight and this was as far as I could get it. I'm bummed, I wanted it to be perfect, but such is life.

Tan's Art Studio

I'm still working on a new pass of my animation which WILL be done by Sunday one way or another and then I'll post it, but in the meantime, my Fine Arts teacher Zimou Tan posts some awesome drawing tutorials and progress stuff on youtube.  Awesome to watch.

This is one of his few digital drawings. You'd never know he couldn't get a lot of precision or pressure sensitivity on the ipad.

Dragon In Progress

Just thought I'd post this since I'm trying to keep this blog up to date.  The deadline has been pushed back a week for this piece and so I took it a little easier this weekend.  Its still unfinished, but its getting there!

Perspective Process

My perspective teacher Joko posted a really cool process video on how he does a perspective art piece.  He takes no shortcuts!  Crazy the amount of time this must have taken!

Ergonomics

I saw this and had to share it with anyone who might be reading this blog.  This is so important.  I had tendinitis in my elbow and it still acts up sometimes, if I didn't make my workstation ergonomic, I wouldn't be able to animate today, I'd already be all mangled and broken - at age 22!  I know too many people who don't take ergonomics seriously, or don't understand how to do it.  If you're reading this, PLEASE watch this video.

punch notes

Just thought this was fun, seeing how changing a few things changed the entire feel of the whole punch.

Dragon Splines

This is after a day or two of tweaking splines. Went to JD's last night and he gave me a TON of notes on the punch and the dragon that I'm really looking forward to putting in here, but I thought that I'd post this as an inbetween stage :)

I'm going to post these using youtube now instead of the blogger player since its better, I'd do dropbox, but I don't want to have to keep these up forever and take up space on there.

Runs and Dragons

Well, I thought that since I have a blog, I should probably use it. Working really hard lately. Here are two of the pieces I'm working on. I have a third, but I'm not going to post my iAnimate stuffs as per Jason Ryan's request. So here it is. I went to APE and met some really great people from local game studios and they told me that my reel really needed a run cycle, so I took a day to work this out. I still need to get it reviewed by JD, but hopefully there's nothing too wrong with it. Blogger's player doesn't let you loop it unfortunately, so he's only taking two steps, but just imagine it going on longer! :) The dragon is still in blocking/stepped mode since its only my second pass. I'm thinking I may need to tweak the timing on that one since when she lifts him up, the dragon doesn't feel as heavy as he used to now that I've broken it down more. It may also be that stepped mode has a tendency to make everything feel so snappy, as soon as JD sees this I'm going to go into spline mode and smooth everything out.

I'm also doing mocap and when I get that farther, maybe I'll post it, too.
